TJP’s recent return was good for the cruiserweight division because he is the kind of performer who can have a good match with anyone.

His opponent for this week’s show was Gran Metalik. These are the same two Superstars who fought for the title in the finals of the Cruiserweight Classic, but their careers have taken different paths since then.

TJP is a former champion who has been involved with several storylines. Metalik has been used sparingly without any kind of extended feud with anyone.

This was a solid outing from two talented wrestlers, but it didn’t come close to what we know these two are capable of. This is a result of WWE making talents water down their style until they are in a big match situation.

In a somewhat surprising outcome, Metalik picked up the win with a modified Michinoku Driver. Kalisto came out to celebrate with his friend, while TJP tried to regain his composure.

The first match of the night continued a story from last week’s show. Kalisto teamed up with Gran Metalik to take on The Brain Kendrick and Jack Gallagher.

Kendrick said they didn’t have a problem with Metalik until he stuck his nose in their business, so he must suffer the same fate as Kalisto.

This was a relatively standard tag team match. Metalik and Kalisto relied on high-flying offense while Gallagher and Kendrick kept things grounded.

Longer matches are usually the way to go, but this bout took 15 minutes to tell a 10-minute story. All four men did a good job, but it felt like they were running out of gas toward the end.

Kendrick and Gallagher were disqualified after The Wizard of Odd refused to stop stomping on Kalisto after the ref told him to leave the ring.

The villainous duo didn’t stop at the bell. They threw Kalisto into the ring post and used the steel steps to inflict extra damage to the knee of Metalik.

Metalik with a nice rope walking armdrag to kick things off, followed by more rope walking into a dropkick. Kendrick to the outside, Metalik with a suicide dive that ends up hitting Gallagher. Springboard dropkick into the ring that sends Kendrick to the floor on the opposite side. He charges for a baseball slide, but Kendrick avoids it and sends Metalik into the crowd. Metalik backs up, leaps over the barricade and hits a hurricanrana! Metalik with another try with the ropes, but Gallagher pulls him down from behind.

Kendrick able to take advantage and keep his opponent grounded. Metalik with a nice powerbomb reversal into a pin. Kendrick charges into the corner, misses, pin attempt, two. Metalik tries for another quick pin, but no luck and gets an elbow under the jaw. Sliced bread #2 attempt, nope, knee to Metalik’s face, head into the ring post, and more knee strikes, ouch. Center of the ring now, captain’s hook locked in and Metalik is out of it. Ref calls for the bell.

Gallagher is a remarkable performer but is perhaps even more so now that he wrestles in a full three-piece suit and dress shoes. He and Kendrick are as different as chalk and cheese — especially evidenced if you’ve seen their episode of “Ride Along” on the WWE Network — but functioned well as a tag team here.

After Metalik played babyface in peril, he managed to get distance between himself and Gallagher and Kendrick. They did a great spot where Kendrick slid back into the ring as Metalik was crawling to make the hot tag and Kendrick dove to stop him, just missing as the tag was made. The timing was perfect.

The finish saw Metalik hit a prone Gallagher with his rope-walking elbow drop while Kendrick was too far away to make the save. Metalik and Kalisto celebrated like they had just won a championship but, overall, this was far too short given the talent on the show.

Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik def. Drew Gulak & Tony Nese in tag-team action in the final match taped for Main Event prior to the start of RAW. The action in this one was fast-paced, and although the match didn’t last too long, they fit some good stuff in that had the fans out of their seats. In the end, Dorado and Metalik picked up the “W.”

Still in the ring after his cowardly attack on Amore, cruiserweight champion Neville squared off with Gran Metalik.

Live a savage, The King of the Cruiserweights grounded his opponent and ripped at his mask.

From there, he tapped him out to the Rings of Saturn, scoring a mostly uncontested victory over the luchador.

Enzo Amore, Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik battled Drew Gulak, Noam Dar and Tony Nese in six-man tag team action. The match, the latest repetitive addition to the mediocre division, was a rematch from the August 29 episode of 205 Live.

After some athletic back-and-forth from Alexander and Nese early, the heels beat down and isolated Amore. The scrappy loudmouth fought his way around, over and through Gulak, Nese and Dar and made the hot tag to Alexander.

Action broke down and Amore tagged himself back into the match. A poke to the eye and Amore delivered what Corey Graves called Jor-donzo for the pinfall victory.

Winner:Enzo Amore, Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik defeated Noam Dar, Cedric Alexander and Tony Nese.

The first match of the night was a rematch from last week featuring Tony Nese and Drew Gulak going up against Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik.

Nese and Alexander used their quickness to string together several takedowns and pinning combinations to get this contest off to a good start. The crowd was silent when the bell rang, but it didn’t take long for everyone to notice how good the action in the ring was.

Nese and Alexander exchanged a lot of insults during the match, which is a good indicator they will be working a singles feud for at least the next few weeks.

It would also make sense for Gulak to target Metalik since the luchador uses all the high-flying moves Gulak has been protesting in recent months.

They were given just enough time to make this match fun without feeling rushed. Alexander picked up the win for his team with the Lumbar Check.
